I just watched the Giants-Brewers game 9.18.10. It really sucked watching the Giants drop two in a row to a team we swept in four at their place, and we give first place back to the Padres.  It really sucked to watch the team play two lousy, sloppy games in a row.

But its more frustrating to have umpires blow ridiculous calls.  All game the home plate umpire was calling pitches differently. Curve balls up were called strikes, fastballs in were called strikes, pitches that missed location were called strikes.  Pitches that nibbled in before were not called strikes in the same at bat.

It’s frustrating for anyone playing any sport.

Here’s the situation: Giants down by 1 in the bottom of the 9th.  Aubrey Huff has 3-1 count leverage.  A fastball comes in a god 3,4 inches below his knees, and Aubrey’s front leg when straightened gets really low, so this thing is only inches from the ground.  And the umpire LATE CALLS it a strike.

So now everything is different, instead of Buster Posey hitting with a man on first and no outs and the crowd going crazy: Aubrey Huff, who has struggled all game has to go into protect mode, he swings and misses a curve ball inside for out number one, and Posey has to try to get on while the crowd, and manager Bruce Bochy, were yelling at the ump instead of cheering….not a fun thing to do.

And don’t forget the Mets game where Ishikawa clearly beat the tag on a ground ball.

Its ridiculous how such an incompetent umpire or official of any kind would be given permission to officiate such an important game while he or she has the REPUTATION of inconsistency.  MLB has to do a better job getting the better and more consistent umpires to call the game with contesting teams at this point in the season.  Let this guy do the Mariners-Orioles game.
